How does the schedule of a Freilich Session look like?
The schedule for your Freilich evening depends on what you arrange with the performing artist(s). Just make sure that the artist has enough time to check out the location, to do a short sound check, and maybe to help you a bit with making the room cozy. But as a little hint: Usually, doors open around 7 pm and the show starts around 8 pm (see sample schedule below). Performances generally take between 30 and 60 minutes but may vary from artist to artist. After the show, you can also open the floor to people who want to jam a bit, be it with or without the artist. But remember: after 10 pm the volume should be turned down to a level, which does not bother your neighbors’ sleep.
19:00 – 19:30 Doors Open
19:30 – 20:00 Meet & Greet
20:00 – 22:00 Performance (incl. Break)
22:00 – 23:30 Jam & Chill
What to consider when planning to host?
Since most of the sessions are held in private living rooms, you should think about how many people will have space in your room. If you’re not sure about how many guests to invite, you can calculate with one person per square meter you have available in your room. Also, talk to the artist to find out how much space he or she will need to get settled. In some cases, artists feel uncomfortable with going around with the hat to claim the donations after their performance. Help them out by taking the initiative yourself to collect the donations for them.
How can I fade out the event in a smooth way?
Relating to the feedback we got from more than 40 sessions that were organized in our community so far, we can say that most people will leave between 1-2 hours after the end of the performance. In case people would stay longer than you’re comfortable with, nicely ask them to leave. If that does not work, there will always be a representant of the official Freilich team, who will be happy to help you.
How many people does the host invite?
When you get contacted by the artist you will figure out how many friends the artist would like to bring and how many of your friends you want to invite. Just note that there must be at least 5 slots available for members of the Freilich community because Freilich is also about connecting with new, like-minded people.
The following distribution of guest list slots has proven to be quite good:
~ 33% Friend List (Artist)
~ 33% Guest List (Host)
~ 33% Freilich Community
